Shaw Trust and the new BS 8878 Web Accessibility Code of Practice
Shaw Trust is working to the new BS 8878 Web Accessibility Code of Practice from BSI which is designed to help provide accessible and enjoyable web experiences for disabled and elderly users, and to ensure compliance with the new Equality Bill.
The new standard specifies that research and evidence should be sought when making any changes to a current website or during a new build. This includes which browsers and assistive software the website is compatible with, and research into target audiences and how they view the website – be it via laptops, handheld devices or tablets.
By working to this British Standard, Shaw Trust is helping to ensure that accessibility will be regarded as one of the essential building blocks on which any public website, intranet or web-based tool is built.
The BS 8878 Web accessibility Code of Practice is applicable to all public and private organizations wishing to offer accessible, usable websites to their customers.
